Lighting System for NGMA Extension Block ~ NID Final Project

NID Final Project • System • Task Lighting • TEAM Architects • New Delhi

The extension block for the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi needed a proposal for a lighting system that could be manufactured in India – rather than buying existing systems from overseas. The architects are a young and idealistic foursome who won the competition with their design – which is an edgy and yet beautiful modernist extraction of the traditional architectural language of New Delhi.

The final outcome was an extensive system, based on a track lighting grid premise – this was designed for both mass and small scale manufacture – using Aluminium extrusions, die casting as well as simple pressing and spinning technologies.
